Product Description

Background

Prior to the creation of the BoDD there was a significant need for an online tool that enables users to forecast the impact of diseases on a country-by-country basis. Commercial and open-access offerings sought to satisfy this deficiency, however these were limited by short-term projections, opaque methodologies and the inclusion of only a small number of diseases.

Assumptions

The BoDD integrates three basic assumptions: 1. As a country's population increases, the prevalence and incidence of all diseases will rise.

As a country's wealth increases, the amount of communicable disease decreases, while the amount of non-communicable disease increases.

If healthcare spending increases, growth in overall disease is moderated.

Methodology

The BoDD incorporates World Health Organization (WHO), World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and BMI data to create a dynamic dataset proprietary to BMI. It covers 123 diseases and injuries in 192 countries. Data is exportable from BMI online and will be updated annually. For a more detailed explanation of the methodology, please refer to the Appendix.

Creation Of Special Report

Since the inception of the BoDD in late May 2008, BMI's Pharmaceutical & Healthcare analysts have used industry news and developments to leverage the online tool's capabilities.

This report provides unique insights into the burden of various diseases in a selection of regions and countries.
