We expect that Pakistan will become an increasingly important investment destination from a demographic point of view over the long term, provided political issues are addressed successfully. Key Company Trends

Coca-Cola To Open Production Plants:  The Coca-Cola Company reported in June 2014 that it was planning to start production in five new units in Egypt and Pakistan over the following 18 months. The move would address the increasing sales across both countries in 2014.

Government Announces Plans For 1,000 New Utility Stores: First mooted as long ago as October 2013, the Parliamentary Secretary for Industries and Production (Rao Ajmal Khan) announced to the Pakistan National Assembly on 7 May 2014 that a PKR2bn plan to open another 1,000 Utility Stores Corporation (USC) outlets had been submitted for final approval. The project is to be funded with PKR1bn of government funding, with the other PKR1bn being provided by the semi-autonomous USC.

Coca-Col a Pakistan Pushes Back Against 'Capacity Tax' : The Express Tribune reported in April 2014 that Coca-Cola Beverages Pakistan Limited (CCBPL) had obtained a court order preventing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) from collecting a higher level of sales tax from its bottlers. This followed the raising in February of the tax from 10% to 70% in an effort to recoup revenue losses since the taxes...
