BMI View: Foreign direct investment in Libya remains suboptimal following the 2011 civil war, although the Middle East Association reported in July 2013 that interest from UK businesses was increasing across all sectors following a number of trade missions to the Libyan capital. Work has continued on rebuild ing the country's fractured manufacturing and logistics networks , with a programme that seeks to sell a number of state- owned companies into private hands announced in October 2013. Ongoing security risks and the opaque business environment continue to present downside , especially across t he non-oil economy. The former p resident of Lib ya ' s General National Congress, Mohammed Magariaf, warned in a televised speech on February 17 2013 that foreign companies' reluctance to invest in Libya will significantly slow the country's development, boding poorly for the m edium-term economic outlook and consumer spending.

Libya Witnesses More Agricultural Trade Interest: In April 2013, local press reported that Turkish flour exporters visited Libya in a bid to promote their produce in that country. The Turkish companies, represented by Turkish Flours, Yeast and Ingredients Promotion Group, participated in the 41st International Tripoli Trade Fair. Around the same time, The Tripoli Post reported that exports of cattle to Libya resumed 17 years after the ban on imports from the EU was imposed by the Libyan government over fears that bovine spongiform encephalopathy would spread from Europe. The first shipment, comprising 3,000 live cattle, was sent to Libya in February 2013, and by August more than 7,400 cattle and nearly 22,000 lambs had been imported...
