Headline Industry Forecasts

  • The Japanese medical device market remains the second largest in the world, behind only the USA. The market is projected to expand at a CAGR of 2.5% in the 2013-2018 period, which should see it grow from an estimated US$29.8bn in 2013 to US$33.6bn in 2018. Due to exchange rate differences, actual growth, when measured in local currency terms, is expected to be higher, at 3.1% during the forecast period.

  • Japan is the world's third largest importer of medical devices, behind only the USA and Germany. Imports reached a new high of US$12,915.5mn in 2012, a rise of 10.1% over the previous year's total. In local currency terms, the rise was similar, at 10.2% in 2012.
