Cameroon Food & Drink Report

A poor business environment and declining oil production will continue to weigh on Cameroon's economy, which is forecast to be among the slowest growing in Sub-Saharan Africa over the next five years. Nonetheless, we hold a more optimistic outlook for Cameroon's food and drink industry, which will benefit from a favourable demographic situation and rising private consumption levels. Coming from a relatively low base, a number of segments will demonstrate double-digit annual growth rates to 2018, offering attractive investment opportunities.

As per capita incomes rise, we expect per capita food consumption to increase, resulting in large multinational corporations investing heavily in Cameroon in order to tap into this growing market. We believe that joint ventures between domestic and foreign firms will boost domestic production of certain consumer goods, as highlighted by the investments made by SABMiller and Diageo into West Africa's beer market.
